OBJECTS OF THE SOCIETY

The Main Objectives

1. To strengthen grassroots democracy by establishing networks with state and non- state actors
2. To enable people’s participation by strengthening democratic structures including Gram Sabhas Ward Sabhas and other participatory structures at different levels.
3. To build community capacity by working in close coordination with various stakeholders.
4. To build sustainable communities/societies and learn/ share knowledge in a productive and non-violent manner.
5. To undertake and assist initiatives to ensure Good Governance and Sustainable Development in India.

The sub objectives are

1. To create awareness to the people of India about the functioning and powers of Local Government Institutions in India.
2. To undertake Economic, Environmental and Disaster Mitigation and Management initiatives which will strengthen Local Governance.
3. To collaborate with local, state and central Government and to propose new laws, initiatives to the State and Central Governments that pave way for decentralized governance.
4. To work for the areas mentioned in the Schedule 11 and 12 subjects listed in The Constitution of India to Strengthen Local Governance.
5. To establish, guide, support and co-ordinate training institutes/activities to achieve the objects of the society.
6. To undertake, aid and co-ordinate research studies to achieve the objects of the society.
7. To assist Government of India and various State Governments in the Policy formulation and implementation related to the Objects of the Society.
8. To prepare, print and publish Papers, Periodicals, Magazines, Articles and Books in furtherance of the objects of the Society.
9. To collaborate with other institutions and societies in India or abroad interested in similar objects.
10. To propose, review and monitor various State and Central Government policies and schemes related to Governance in India.
11. To offer Fellowships. Scholarships, Prizes and Stipends in furtherance of the objects of the Society.
12. To mobilize resources to achieve the objects of the Society.
13. To promote sustainable development initiatives that strengthen local self-governance in India
14. To do all such other lawful things as are conducive or necessary to achieve the above objects of promoting local governance and sustainable development in all its facets with a professional approach and scientific manner.
15. Relief of the poor, education and preservation of environment

THE ACTIVITIES OF THE SOCIETY

The Activities of the Society include

1. Campaign on people’s issues and local governments through non-violent manner
2. Organize capacity building programmes, training programmes/sessions and conduct workshops to achieve the objects of the Society.
3. Undertake research on democracy, local governance, decentralization of power, sustainable development, etc.
