Thematic Working Areas

In this section, we are listing out the thematic working areas at IGG which will be executed through three wings- i) Awareness wing ii) Research wing iii) Training & Implementation Wing

1.Women Empowerment

  • Facilitating Village Panchayats/Municipalities, etc to form “Mahila Sabha” to address issues and problems related to Women Welfare
  • Setting up the Women’s collective forum consists of elected local government representatives at district level to channelize their voice and address their developmental needs.
  • Incorporating the features of “Gender Budgeting” in Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) to address the gender based developmental gaps.
  • Strengthening Young Women elected local government representatives for maximum political participation.

2.Youth Development

  • Conducting awareness sessions amongst youth on the importance of 73rd & 74th Constitutional Amendment Act and motivate them to contest in local government elections.
  • Conducting training programs to National Service Scheme (NSS), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) Volunteers, Youth Clubs and other youth based institutions.
  • Conducting capacity building sessions on “Youth in Gram Sabha” to increase the participation of Youth voices in Gram Sabha to address their developmental needs.

3. Child Civic Engagement & Leadership

  • Facilitating Village Panchayats to establish a “Child Friendly Panchayat” and setting up Bala Sabhas in their Villages in-collaboration with the School education department.
  • Developing civic awareness amongst children to increase their participation in civic engagement and promoting their leadership aspects to indulge in developmental decision making.
  • Conducting social audits on child care institutions and developmental schemes related to child welfare
  • Promoting Child-friendly infrastructure in Villages.

4. Empowerment of Marginalized Groups

  • Advocating issues/problems related to Welfare of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), elderly and differently abled sections in the spheres of local government.
  • Facilitating more participation of the marginalized groups in Gram Sabha to ensure social justice
  • Raising Voices against Caste-based discrimination and taking protective measures in Village Panchayats/Municipalities, etc
  • Undertaking unique developmental initiatives on need basis.

5. Urban Development

  • Advocating issues related to Urban affairs and Urban Welfare
  • Conducting campaigns and training programs to form Area Sabha’s & Ward Sabha’s in Municipal Corporations/Town Panchayats.
  • Celebrating Urban Local Government Day, June 1 to sensitize public participation and conducting various programs/contests.
  • Organizing Urban Institution Exchange program for Knowledge generation.

6. Decentralized Planning Support System

  • Facilitating Village Panchayats and strengthening their capacities to develop Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and implementing the same with the collaboration of various stakeholders
  • Conducting various capacity building sessions on – Panchayat General Administration, Local Financial Administration, Standing Committees, Panchayat enterprise suite, Government schemes/programs, Constitutional rights, etc

7. Environmental Conservation

  • Promoting Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) in Village panchayats/Municipalities and facilitating them to undertake conservation activities.
  • Facilitating Village Panchayats for the preparation of People’s Biodiversity Register(PBR) and incorporating Biodiversity Conservation Plan in GPDP
  • Conducting “Water Budgeting” & other water conservation related activities on need basis.

8. Disaster Risk Reduction

  • Facilitating Village Panchayats to prepare Disaster Management/ Mitigation plan and integrate into Gram Panchayat Development Plan
  • Conducting various disaster management /mitigation training programs, mock drills to the Village panchayats/Municipalities especially elderly people and youth in the communities.

9. Consultancy Support

Offering consultancy support on need basis for
I) Village Panchayats
ii) Elected government representatives
iii) Individuals
iv) Institutions and
v) Government departments.
